East Middle School Roundabout is a publication of the East Middle School Journalism Club, which is sponsored by eighth grade communication arts teacher Mr. Randy Turner.
Charlie Brown scored 22 points, including 20 in the first half as the East Middle School eighth grade basketball team breezed past Webb City 43-24 tonight.
East scored the first five points of the game on a Dillon McVay three-pointer and a C. Brown jumper and had a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
During the second period, East outscored the visitors 17-10, with C. Brown drawing nothing but net on shot after shot.
The pace of the game slowed during the third quarter with both teams scoring four points, East's coming a C. Brown jumper to open the period and then a Chase Hall two-pointer.
The pace picked up against in the final six minutes. East opened the scoring with McVay finding Hall in the lane for two. After that, it was the Quantal Brown show. Brown missed by only two rebounds recording a double-double scoring 11 points, all in the second half and grabbing eight rebounds.

Only eight points were scored in the third quarter as East maintained its 14-point halftime advantage at 32-18. Charlie Brown added a basket to increase his total to 22 points. Chase Hall also had two.
Charlie Brown ended up the first half in much the same way as he started it- hitting but nothing but net.
Brown scored 20 points, including a pair of three-pointers as East grabbed a 26-14 halftime lead. Also scoring for East in the first half were Dillon McVay with three points and Chase Hall with three.
In order for the good shooters to get their points, someone has to get them the ball and during the firet few moments of tonight's East Middle School Eighth Grade game with Webb City, the man serving up the assists has been Quantal Brown.
Brown had three assists in the first quarter, which just ended with East holding a 15-8 advantage. After Dillon McVay scored the opening basket from an Eli Taylor assist, Taylor picked up assists on three Charlie Brown baskets.
A 15-footer by Terrell Gilmore ended an 8-2 Webb City run that saw the visitors trim East's lead to 22-14 in the eighth grade B game.
Gilmore just made it two in a row with a steal and layup to build the lead to 26-14 with 32.7 seconds left in the first half.
A nice spin move in the lane and banker by Tyson Hardee enabled East to finish a 6-0 run before the half, which ended with East leading Webb City 28-14.

Joplin East 8th Grade B has jumped to a 16-6 lead over Webb City early in the second quarter.
The games are being played in a divided gym tonight with the seventh grade B game taking place on the other side of the barrier as this is being written.
The crowed has already filled in on both sides.
The eighth grade A game has been anxiously anticipated all week, coming on the heels of wins Tuesday and Thursday.
Photos by DREW COX A pep rally for basketball and wrestling season was held seventh hour today in the East Middle School Gymnasium. The rally was the second during the 2009-2010 school year. The first was held during the football and volleyball seasons.
East Middle School students were out of school Jan. 7 and 8 due to the weather. Some students offered their thoughts about snow days. Lots of people love having no school. , including someone from North Middle School. “I love having no school it’s cold and you don’t have to get up early.” seventh grader Karin Hoffman said. “No school is awesome ;you get to sleep in.” seventh grader Ronnie Herron added. “I like snow days. I like not having school and I like playing in the snow.” seventh grader Valerie Royer said.
Dillon McVey drew nothing but net on four three-pointers as the East Middle School eighth grade squad defeated Cassville 41-25 in a game that ended moments ago. McVey led all scorers with 16 points.
Marshal Dillon had plenty of help in shooting down the visitors. Quantal Brown added 10 points, Chase Hall eight, and Eli Taylor seven.
Brown put the punctuation on the game, with a steal and layup to provide East's final points.
East grabbed an early lead courtesy of a McVay three-pointer and a Brown basket, set up by an assist from Hall. East led 9-4 after one quarter.
Each team scored four points in the second quarter, then a torrent of three-pointers, two from McVey and a banker from Eli Taylor enabled East to pull away from the visitors in the third period, which ended with the locals leading 28-14.
The fourth quarter began with Brown snaring an offensive rebound and nailing the putback to build East's lead to 16 points. After a Cassville free throw, McVay hit a layup from a Terrell Gilmore assist. Brown scored four of the last seven points, sandwiching his baskets around McVay's final three-pointer.
For Cassville, the third quarter of tonight's eighth grade basketball game at East Middle School was a journey into the tall, tall threes.
Downtown Dillon McVey scorched the Wildcats for a pair of long range missiles and Eli Taylor banked in another as East outscored the visitors 15-6 to take a 28-14 lead into the fourth quarter.
East is holding a five-point advantage, 13-8, in the eighth grade game against Cassville in the EMS gymnasium.
East jumped to a 9-4 lead after one quarter and both teams scored four points in the second period. East's points came courtesy of baskets by Chase Hall and Eli Taylor, with Dillon McVay assisting on Taylor's basket.

A three-pointer by Dillon McVay and a basket by Quantal Brown from a Chase Hall assist gave East a quick 5-0 lead en route to a 9-4 first quarter advantage over the visiting Cassville Wildcats in the eighth grade game.
East also had a steal and layup by Terrell Gilmore and a Hall basket from a McVay assist.
The timeout did not do Cassville any good as East scored the next basket, then forced a turnover with its full court pressure. A Tameric Branham steal did not result in an East basket, but Cassville quickly turned the ball over again.
Cassville broke the scoring drought with 1:16 left in the quarter to trim the lead to 25-18.
It looks like I may have counted out Cassville too soon. The Wildcats just hit a 15-footer to make it a five-point game.
On an in-bounds pass, DeVaughn Simmons hit Branham cutting across the baseline. He missed the shot, but was hammered and converted one of two free throws. East leads 26-20 with 19 seconds left.
Halftime score- East 17, Cassville 16. East took an 8-4 lead after the opening quarter with Tameric Branham scoring six points. Jace Brakes had five points in the second period.
By DREW COX Staff Writer A baby shower was held Friday, January 15, in the East Middle School Library for Ms. Lara Stamper, who is expecting her third child later this month.
The first-ever East Middle School Academic All-Stars were recognized during ceremonies held Nov. 19 in the T. Frank Coulter Auditorium at Joplin High School.
Students make the all-stars through high scores on the annual MAP tests.
